2023 Year in Review

January

The top highlight from January was the all staff gathering in Namayemba where employees and leadership from across the country gathered together to pray, dream and prepare for a new year of impact in Uganda! There couldn’t have been a better way to start the year than to prepare together as a team with a unified vision.

February

Schools are back in session! We opened four school campuses across Uganda with 1,350+ students at AsOne schools (60% growth). We were eager to have learners back in the classroom as we kicked off another year of academics at our beautiful school campuses.

March

We launched our four new health centers across Uganda! We welcomed Healing Grace Medical Centers to Idudi, Mayuge, Kaberamaido, and Rwanyabihuka! At every location, hundreds of community members came to celebrate the opening of the new health facility in their community. Healing Grace Medical Centers now has five locations in Uganda.

April

We broke ground on our newest schools in Mayuge and Kaberamaido. In Mayuge, the AsOne Nursery & Primary School and AsOne High School in Kaberamaido!

May

New Projects & Health Camps! In May we purchased an existing property for our new tailoring business and vocational training center in Idudi. We also launched a monthly program to offer free services at Healing Grace Medical Centers in each community we operate.

June

Let the Immersion Trips begin! In 2023, our team in Uganda welcomed 109 international visitors to Uganda. We couldn’t be more thankful to our partners at Seeds of Change, Sioux Falls Christian, Dakota Wesleyan University, Western Christian High School, Valor Christian High School, and RiverTree Church!

July

In July we hosted our annual Leadership Conference in Namayemba. During this time hundreds of leaders from different locations came together to learn and discuss principles from the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. We also continued our development programs and launched construction of a new poultry farm on 10 acres of land in Mayuge.

August

Let’s take a moment in August to update you on the speedy progress of construction at the new school campuses that were under development earlier this year. Also, in August we were able to officially move our AsOne Bakery in Namayemba to a new location in the town’s trading center.

September

In September we took an intentional week filled with activities, meals, prayer, worship, teachings, sports, and service to emphasize and celebrate what it means to be a part of AsOne’s culture as a team by reflecting and practicing our core values.

Also, in other exciting news, this month we opened AsOne’s newest tailoring business in Idudi after fully renovating the facility and hiring new staff members.

October

Two significant moments in October were, first, celebrating with our farmers in Uganda their success from the prior harvest. Featured below are Joseph and Antolina — a couple in their late 60’s & early 70’s that have increased their average crop yield 4x over the last three seasons. Now they’re building a home, sending children to college, and diversifying their farm.

Second, 200+ people in the South Dakota community came to celebrate the work of AsOne in Uganda — it was a beautiful time together.

November

We couldn’t be more thankful for our AsOne community that came together in Denver and South Dakota to invest generously in the work of AsOne. Not only were we able to expand, but were also able to add new facilities at our current schools including: new dorms, vocational training facilities, and vehicles! We love our AsOne family.

December

As we head towards the end of 2023, we’re celebrating another spectacular year. A season is winding down as students graduate and staff head off for Christmas celebrations. But we are all filled with anticipation for new schools to open, new projects to break ground on, and another year filled with deep relationships, tremendous impact, and a God glorifying mission.
