Quarterly Update | Q2, 2023

2023 has been off to a fantastic start for AsOne Ministries. This is an update to you, our supporters, on the success of the work taking place in Uganda and all that you have helped make possible as we start this new year. As we start a new quarter, I want to share with you the exciting work we’ve accomplished in the last 90 days.

All-Staff Gathering

To start 2023, we gathered all of our employees across Uganda (194 to be exact) at our High School in Namayemba. During that time we made space for connection, fun, relationships, sports, training, and vision-casting for what we believe God has called us to in 2023. It was a thrilling time together, to watch a team nearly double in size since last year come and celebrate all that we have done, and share where we believe God is leading us.

One of my favorite experience from that time was participating in handing out employee awards. We were joined by an assembly of government officials from Bugiri District as they helped announce winners and shake their hands as they received their awards. As our team members came up to receive their awards, they were stunned. They were amazed by the people who were granting them a congratulations and thrilled to be recognized for their contribution for the ways they have made this young organization a success.

I couldn’t help but reflect and think about how the majority of AsOne team members are under 30. As we look back on our lives, we all equally feel astounded by who we’ve become and how God has used us to love, serve, and bless others. It made me quite emotional to think about the great challenges that many of the people who make up AsOne have gone through — it was a dream come true for them to be recognized by the President’s direct report for the District. I’m proud of the team and family we are building.

New Health Centers Have Opened

Less than one year after acquiring plots of land we were able to construct four new medical centers in Uganda. Not only that, thanks to the generosity of a ton of people, we were able to equip them with modern equipment, install a network for EMR systems, hire over 40 new staff, host opening ceremonies (where over 300 people attended each one), and then operate them. What a great accomplishment that speaks to our belief in the capacity and ability the people of Uganda have to do remarkable work.

A New School in Mayuge

At the start of 2022 we set a target to develop five communities with all dimensions of our model in place: a school, medical center, farm, and businesses and make them fully-operating. It would take courage, generosity, grit, and a lot of prayer to make it happen… and we’re already almost there.

In February, we broke ground on a new school in Matuba, Mayuge. This Nursery & Primary School will have capacity for 600+ students, 30 or more local staff, and will become the center for our work of transformation for the District of Mayuge. It’s a huge focus of ours in 2023 to see this school built and operating by the start of next year.

Adding a High School Campus in Kaberamaido

In Kaberamaido we decided, by necessity, to draw outside the lines of our three-year plan a bit. This is a community in great need of a strong, Christ-centered, academically-focused, quality school, and we’ve decided to work with the community and its officials to make it happen. This last quarter we purchased 4 acres of land near our Health Facility and Nursery & Primary School for this new High School. We will now have two school in this underserved community. They are staggered with excitement. We cannot wait to see how God surprises us through this act of faith and obedience to His prompting.

Working Towards Sustainability

Our team in Uganda has made huge strides in the first quarter towards local sustainability. In Q1, we will have covered over 72% of our operating costs by generating $107,000 in Ugandan revenue. With opening our new health facilities late in the first quarter, we believe we are well on our way towards hitting our $500,000 goal of local revenue in 2022.

An Exciting Summer Filled with Immersion Trips

We are thrilled for a summer filled with Immersion Trips. This summer our team in Uganda will host seven trips with over 100 travelers! We’re asking for you to join us in prayer for our teams. These are all beloved partners and friends in this vision of ending relational, spiritual, and economic poverty one community at a time.
