Faces of Local Leadership - Janet’s Story
Growing up in Toro, Janet always carried a quiet longing—to serve Christ and to make a difference in the lives of people around her.
The calling was there from the beginning—it just hadn’t been fully realized yet.
Then she joined AsOne.
Today, Janet serves as the Director of Human Resource at AsOne—and her role sits at the very heart of how transformation happens in rural Uganda.
Here's how the model works: when AsOne enters a new community, positions are advertised locally. People from within that community apply, are equipped with the right skills, and are then sent back to serve their neighbors. It's not outside help parachuting in. It's Ugandans empowering Ugandans—neighbors investing in neighbors, communities lifting themselves.
And Janet is the one making sure it all runs well.
As Director of HR, Janet oversees the strategic planning behind AsOne's 460-person workforce. She ensures the right people are in the right seats, that local leaders are equipped to grow, and that every hire moves a community closer to long-term sustainability.
But her story doesn't stop there.
Because of the income she earns through AsOne, Janet is now paying school fees for her siblings. She's building her father a home. And she's growing into a leader herself—constantly learning new skills, taking on greater responsibility, and investing in the people around her.
"Serving in AsOne has impacted my life greatly," Janet says. "I'm being pushed to grow in leadership."
This is what your generosity makes possible. When you give to AsOne, you're not just funding programs—you're creating jobs, and with those jobs, pathways to dignity and leadership. Every position ripples outward, shifting communities from dependence to independence and raising up local leaders who take ownership and build something that lasts.
"This is a movement of Ugandans empowering Ugandans," Janet says. And because of you, it's growing.
Thank you for being part of this story. Because of you, communities across rural Uganda are moving from dependence to independence—and a new generation of leaders is rising to lead the way.
