Our farmers in Kaberamaido are thriving!

In Kaberamaido, a community with fertile soils and a history of farming, residents eagerly embraced AsOne's farmer training programs to improve their livelihoods. Mr. Eteru Joshua, a farmer facing challenges like pests and unpredictable weather, learned valuable techniques through AsOne's assistance.

Through these interventions, farmers’ received improved maize seed varieties and training on planting techniques, which has lead to improved seasonal crop yields. These new farming methods and utilization of natural fertilizers have enhanced soil fertility, helping them overcome obstacles like pesticides and crop damage.

AsOne teaches and supports modern farming practices which leads to greater household incomes. This helps everyday families in Uganda: grow and sell cash crops, fund their own healthcare and education, and mitigate food shortages. These technological advancements such as deep tillage and fertilizer applications is transforming livelihoods.

Through financial management training, farmers like Mr. Eteru learned to efficiently utilize their income. This has empowered them to invest in continuing to purchase improved seed, proper land preparation, as well as venturing into new small businesses and purchasing new equipment.

Mr. Eteru expanded his maize cultivation, and through this he is processing his harvests into “posho flour” and is selling them to local shops and schools. These ventures have strengthened his community ties and economic stability.

In 2024 AsOne is set to work with over 25,000 farmers across our 5 districts by introducing new improved seed varieties and disseminating farming techniques to help farmers’ productivity community-wide. We believe this will continue to help further enhance the livelihoods and sustainability of our communities.
