A Story of Holistic Transformation: Salama Nanyungwe
Salama’s story shows how one opportunity can make a real difference.
When her parents could no longer afford to send her to school, Salama worried about her future. Without an education, her options were extremely limited—she risked being trapped in poverty, with little chance to build a stable life or pursue a meaningful career.
But through AsOne, Salama was able to return to school and complete her studies. That support not only gave her hope for the future but also inspired her to give back. She set her sights on becoming a teacher so other children could access the same opportunities she had been given, and her commitment grew stronger with each step of the way.
Today, Salama teaches Grade 3 at AsOne Nursery & Primary School – Luuka. Teaching allows her to meaningfully provide for herself and her family, but it also gives her work a sense of meaning and purpose. She shares:
“Every day I wake up so excited to teach. I want my students to be transformed and become better versions of themselves.”
Through her teaching, Salama is helping her students grow academically and personally, while also modeling the importance of perseverance. Her life is a clear example of how education and support can open doors—not only for herself but for the children she now guides, creating a ripple effect of hope in her community.
